No Twins, but You are a BOY?!!!

We found out last week that you are probably a BOY! Well, buddy, you'd better get ready cuz you have three big sisters. You are going to be so spoiled and probably had better prepare yourself for lots of unmanly hair-do's in your future.

I just couldn't take the curiousity any longer and scheduled an ultrasound. The nurse said that I was measuring 26 cms. at almost 19 weeks. YIKES! We thought for sure it was twins! Then the nurse-midwife came in and was prepping us for a quick peak on ultrasound when I asked her to re-measure me. Well, she came up with a somewhat disappointing 20.5. At any rate, we had the quick peak anyway and she told us that you do in fact appear to be a BOY!!!! So that was really exciting!!!! I had begun to slip lately and calling you "he" or "him" so I was kind of not surprised.

I have still really not connected with this possibility. What if I get prepared for you to be our son and you come out a daughter after all, as happened with two of your elder sisters??

We also found out that your placenta lies between my outsides and you (an "anterior placenta"). This explains why I haven't felt much from you. However, you've been pretty active today, so either your placenta is growing up or you are getting stronger, as we approach the big mid-pregnancy mark. I've also been having lots of Braxton Hicks contractions since yesterday, so that's kind of exciting too because it's more like my last two pregnancies. It's encouraging to me because I know that I had two short efficient births, and I like to think this will happen again. However, it's just fine with you if you keep your head a good normal size---you don't have to strive to have the biggest head in the family; your next oldest sibling's head was quite big enough!!!

I'm excited about thinking about another homebirth. I wonder if you will also be a waterbirth, or if I'll opt for the showerbirth I had for my first homebirth, which actually was less painful for me than the waterbirth? Or was the pain because your waterbirthed sibling's head was just bigger??
